The Returns in Investing In Our Railway

Braintree council has commissioned the consultancy Mott MacDonald to provide costs for enhancing the route between Braintree and Witham.  To provide a passing loop at White Notley could cost in the region of £11 million and to double track between White Notley and Witham approximately £18 million.

Interestingly the study also showed that every £1 invested in these schemes would reap a return of more than £2.50.  If this model was applied to other areas in this region then surely the case for investment is well made?
